Contractors, Code Officials and ICC certificate holders are not trained
in safety issues, if it does not pertain to current building code.

 
Division I contractor, General, Building, Residential 
 

Division I contractor's course and exam material are void of
information for identifying safety issues that do not pertain to current
building practices or building code. The fact is they have no training
safety issues prior to the current code.

Code officials and ICC certificate holders 


Code officials and ICC certificate holders course and exam material
are also void of information identifying safety issues that do not
pertain to current building practice and building code; therefore they
don't have any training in safety issues prior to the current code
either. T
here are 242 code courses provided by ICC and none offer
training regarding safety issues in building practices prior to current
code.

The HUD website states:

"Related experience in construction or engineering is helpful, but is no
substitute for training and experience in the unique discipline of home
inspection." 
 
 

A few terms that are not found in any of these courses or exams but
that are vital for the Home Inspector to know are:

 

Asbestos
Knob and tube
WDO
Aluminum wiring
M
old
Lead paint
Moisture intrusion
Chinese drywall
Crawl space
Anti-tilt
EIFS
Vermiculite
Federal pacific


Any one that has not
been trained and taken the NHIE or the
InterNACHI exam covering these issues is not qualified to inspect
homes for a real estate transaction.

Action:

 
For years Contractors and Code Officials have understood their need
to get Home Inspector training in order to be a knowledgeable and
proficient professional Home Inspector.
